Pregnancy Consultation and Guidance

Dr. Rania Ibrahim considers pregnancy to be a normal, healthy process and that the resulting childbirth is an event, not just a procedure. Our part in your care is to promote wellness and provide education, support, and proper health screenings to monitor the health of you and your developing baby.

During pregnancy, regular checkups by your OB-GYN are extremely important in keeping you and your baby healthy, identify any possible problems, and prevent complications during the delivery process.

Routine checkups typically occur one time per month from weeks 4 through 28, twice per month for weeks 28 through and each week for weeks 36 to the time you give birth. Women who are classified as having a high-risk pregnancy need to see their OB-GYN more frequently.

During your first visit, your OB-GYN will do a full physical exam, collect blood samples, and verify your due date. She may also use this visit to do a breast, pelvic and cervical exam, including a Pap smear test. She will also discuss your lifestyle, relationships, and health practices. Remember: It’s important that you are completely honest during these discussions!

The visits that follow will include:

  • Checks of your weight and blood pressure;
  • A check of the baby’s heart rate;
  • A measurement of your abdomen to keep an eye on your baby’s growth.

Your OB-GYN will also perform some routine tests throughout your pregnancy, such as those to identify the presence of anemia, measure your risk of gestational diabetes, and look for any damaging infections.

Additional tests may be prescribed based on your age, health history of you and your family or your ethnic background.

For the best possible care, become partners with your doctor, and be sure to show up for all schedule appointments because each one is important!
